The Mechanical Craft performs mechanical maintenance activities on equipment such as pumps, valves, turbines, etc. These activities are done per the applicable regulatory requirements; plant policies, procedures, and good maintenance principles; and nuclear standards for reactor safety, industrial safety, radiological safety, and environmental protection.

- Perform testing and maintenance activities on mechanical primary, secondary, and auxiliary systems, and their associated components including pumps, piping, insulation, and hangers.
- Review engineering drawings and equipment vendor drawings/data.
- Record and log the results of mechanical maintenance and testing activities on mechanical equipment, such as ‘as found’ and ‘as left’ equipment and component conditions, corrective actions, and settings in addition to parts, test equipment, labor, and other resources such as materials used in the performance of assigned maintenance and testing activities.
- Verify that adequate and required precautions have been taken prior to initiating a maintenance or testing activity. Such precautions include tagged electrical and mechanical devices, establishment of radiation barriers and cleanliness areas, and other checks to ensure that maintenance and testing is being initiated in accordance with administrative and technical procedure requirements and promulgate safety criteria.
- Provide on-the-job training in the proper use of tools, test equipment, and procedures to ensure compliance with plant-specific and industry-accepted standards.
- Provide mechanical support to other departments and support services, as requested.
- Interpret work orders, drawings, sketches, blueprints, data, etc.
- Report abnormal conditions observed or encountered, such as abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions, and violations of security procedures.
- Assist in the development, correction, and validation of Station procedures and tests.
- Attend training and maintain qualifications.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Exposure to noise, grease, fumes, gases, electrical energy, and inclement weather conditions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to work different shifts.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification, and Licenses:
- Five years related nuclear plant experience.
- APR 1400 experience.
Required Education, Experience, Certification and Licenses:
- High School Diploma (GED) or education equivalent – Ability to pass pre-employment testing.
- Experience on a nuclear facility.
- Native English speaker or proven ILETS test score > 6.5.
- Ability to receive unescorted Nuclear access.
- Capable of learning and applying basic skills in mechanical maintenance operations. Possess high degree of manual dexterity.
- Must have satisfactorily completed a Mechanical Apprentice Program; or the equivalent.
- Must have thorough working knowledge of applied mechanical maintenance principles.
- Must have thorough working knowledge of the layout, construction, functions, and operation of the mechanical equipment and critical connections of the Station.
- Must have thorough working knowledge of the mechanical maintenance, repair, and construction procedures and practices of the Station.
- Must have thorough working knowledge of the rules, safety practices and procedures for clearing and tagging out mechanical apparatus for the protection of personnel and equipment.
- Must have thorough working knowledge of the practices, principles, and proper application of equipment, as prescribed by the Company for industrial and radiological safety, first aid, and fire prevention.
